Why I decided to start this business?

My husband used to travel all over Missouri as a recruiter for a trade school. He noticed that the Amish communities located near major highways or interstates do well selling their products while the smaller communities on the rural highways do not.

We have purchased Amish products for our home for years and have always been impressed with the quality with which they make their handcrafted rugs, baskets & various items. We know we are not alone in our appreciation for quality products at good prices.

So, one night while talking with my husband, we thought about how we could bring these products to the public while helping the lesser known Amish communities. That is how Missouri Amish Company got started.

Habitat For Humanity -
Rug for Hugs Campaign

We wanted to do something to help people within the state of Missouri. Kyle thought that it would be a great idea to give house warming gift to those new Home Owners of the Habitat For Humanity Project.

In 2017, we will donate one of our Amish Rugs to a deserving family that earns a house from the Habitat for Humanity Project, for every 20 Amish Rugs we sell. We feel honored to be able to offer a house warming gift to deserving individuals that are working to better themselves and the community.

If you are interested in purchasing and donating a Amish Rug to the Rug for Hugs Campaign, Please note that in an Email and in the comment section of your order.

Thanks from Laura & Kyle

How we give back to Our Amish Communities?

We wanted to give back to these communities by donating  school supplies for their children. This creates a mutually beneficial relationship for the Amish and us.

In August 2016, we gave 532 spiral note books to 12 Amish Communities, the the picture below. Their school year starts in September and ends in April. The children only go to the Eighth grade. The schools are either one or two rooms. All of the students are taught together. They have recess during the day which they play: Tag, Shipwreck (across between Baseball, Cricket, & Tag).

After they graduate, they start working with their families to learn a trade or work for another family in the community. Because of the children per family (5-10 kids), there is normally not enough jobs. This is not to say that they have nothing to do because the Amish farms are very labor intensive.

The Teachers are normally women that have graduated from the same school. The elders normal hire them when they are 18 to 21 years old.
